Two friends of ours were out last night and were on their way home. On MONTANA and ECHO PARK they were approached by a man (possibly 2?) who is described as a gang member. He began yelling at them and calling them “faggots” and saying really awful homophobic…

New football stadium would bring nearly 20,000 cars on game days -

The project, not far from the interchange of the 10 and 110 freeways, also would have unavoidable significant impacts on freeway offramps after AEG puts its traffic management plan in place.

That includes six locations on weekday evenings and as many as 11 on Saturdays, the document states. “No feasible physical improvement mitigation measures were identified for these impacts,” the report said.

That troubles Victor Citrin, who lives just a few blocks away from the proposed stadium. He said traffic associated with Lakers games and other Staples Center events is problematic already and sometimes blocks residents from getting to their homes.

If a regular person made a proposal for something as disruptive as the new stadium, it would never be approved, he said.

“If we as private citizens do something that creates a problem, we are responsible for either mitigating the problem before it happens or rectifying the damage done afterwards,” he said. “With all the knowledge that’s already being admitted on how this is going to impact, why would the city even go along with this?

“The benefits to the city are just not great enough to warrant an intrusion of this scale into the downtown area,” Citrin added.

This DTLA makes an impressive statement that (at least I think) represents the anger and frustrations of anyone who lives near downtown regarding this proposal. If our city wasn’t so attached at the hip to big corporations and investors, this would never be built. LA does NOT need a stadium in DTLA.

ATTENTION: Los Angeles artists and printmakers -

We’re USC graduate students in arts journalism, curating an online gallery and a live exhibit at HOME ROOM gallery during the month of April. We want to showcase YOUR artwork!

This is an experiment in online/offline arts content and engagement. Workshops, exhibitions, competitions – where does arts journalism fit in? Help us figure it out!  Therefore, we are looking for both HARD COPY and DIGITAL submissions of your prints. When submitting work online, you have the option to enter it into an online competition judged by a public vote. The winning designs will be screenprinted onto T-shirts at a workshop organized by us on April 11 at Home Room.

Submit your work online HERE or send submissions to Elisa Hough: ehough@usc.edu

Hard copies due by March 24, digital copies must be submitted by March 24 to be considered for voting. Otherwise, work will continue to be posted on our site. -
